REINVENTING A FESTIVAL The Ourense
International Film Festival reaches its 12th edition with a new team
having just landed one month prior to the launching of the event. Full
of optimism the team has taken on the challenge of restructuring the cultural, creative, social and industrial roles of the
event updating it to meet the new times of innovation and change that audiovisual is nowadays experiencing throughout the world.The motto "Reinventing a Festival”, defines of the main goal of this year's event. Besides its key objective of developing the Galician audiovisual industry and culture within the international and European context, the Festival presents a selection of more than 120 innovative and challenging films coming from over 80 countries that are the expression of a wide international cultural and artistic diversity. Included in this diverse choice, a selection of the best Galician films of the year will give the Festival its own identity and flavor, a touch of salt and pepper, offering a unique opportunity to discover Galician cinema works as part of the global panorama. With deep European roots, the Ourense Film Festival looks overseas to America, following the tradition of Galicia's history and shared past, serving as a meeting point for both Latin American and European cinema and audiovisual culture. The strengthening of the Galician and Portuguese audiovisual relations, based in their shared language provides also a space to screen and negotiate works from a huge linguistic area that comprises Africa and Brazil. Taking the above goals as starting point, the festival’s 12th edition is organized as a democratic platform for discussion where professionals and institutions from Galicia, Spain, Europe and Iberoamerica can meet to reinvent a festival and to brainstorm innovative ideas to serve the development of both, viewers and professionals. FESTIVAL PROFILE The 12th edition of the Ourense International Film Festival will take place from November 17 to November 24, 2007 The Ourense International Film Festival presents an annual selection of the most innovative cinema productions among feature films, creative documentary and short films collected from international entries from over 80 countries around the world. Defined as a platform to develop and give visibility to independent cinema and all genre of audiovisual works, the Ourense International Film Festival has 3 main goals: 1- To give visibility and serve as a promotional and working place for the most innovative and challenging cinema and audiovisual works produced internationally that contribute to the mutual understanding between cultures. 2- To be the Galician platform and meeting point for the development, co-production and distribution of local and international audiovisual works between Europe, Latin America and the rest of the world. 3- To serve as a platform for co-production, promotion and distribution of the Galician /Portuguese language cinema and audiovisual works. |
